I actually managed to watch most of the Grammy presentation tonight, which was quite nice after my teething demon went to bed. Let’s see what I can cram into five minutes about the spectacle.
According to Twitter, this program was the Adele awards. In all fairness, she did tie with Beyonce for most awards in one night (awesome!). There were other performances, though some of them less memorable than others (blanking out now) and others memorable for all the wrong reasons. This is the part where I say WTF was Minaj going for there? Theatrical/shocking church stuff has been done. By greater artists and much more skillfully. I know it’s hard to compete with Gaga, but trying to outdo her there is probably going to fail. Let me know how that works out for you. Rather likewise for Katy Perry. Don’t get me wrong- I like her. Cute, poppy, and the performance said, “Take THAT, Russel Brand!” but it was so, so much craziness. I think my face was perpetually scrunched in an odd manner during those times.
Moving on to better things. Fashion-wise, Gwyneth Paltrow and Carrie Underwood looked marvelous. J Hudson’s Whitney tribute was very nice, and I quite enjoyed Sir Paul McCartney closing out the event. He’s still got it. Legen- wait for it, wait for it – DARY!
Last but not least, the queen of tonight’s celebration: Adele. How can you not love her? I could genuinely see/feel her nerves during that performance, and she was still trying to pull herself together through the standing O which she so completely deserved. That woman is HUMBLE! It’s just refreshing, encouraging and moving to have such great talent providing an incredible example for this generation. She’s REAL. Wearing her heart on her sleeve. She giggles and cries so much that she has snot dripping and can admit it in front of the world and keep going with her thank-you’s. Love it.
